October 2-3, Washington, DC, ABA National Training Insitute on Civil Remedies for Human Trafficking Victims

IOFA co-presented a workship entitled, "Special Considerations for Child Trafficking Victims." Human traffiking experts from around the country participated in this event.

September 26, 2008, Hyannis, Massachusettes, "Current Thinking/New Direction" Child Advocacy Conference

The Children's Cove Child Advocacy Center hosted its 9th annual child advocacy conference. IOFA's Executive Director, Katherine Kaufka, was invited to present, "An Introduction to Human Trafficking and Advocacy for Child Victims."

July 25, 2008 Madison, Wisconsin, "Human Trafficking: Tools for an Effective Response"

IOFA, as part of the Freedom Network Training Institute, provided a day-lo[';;[]';ng training to over 90 service providers, advocates, attorneys, law enforcement and government officials. The event was hosted by the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

June 2-3, 2008, United Nations General Assembly Thematic Debate on Human Trafficking, New York, New York, USA

The General Assembly Thematic Debate on Human Trafficking aims to raise awareness about the scale of the problem of human trafficking, promote international partnerships and consider how the UN system most effectively can address human trafficking. IOFA participated as part of a panel on best practices in criminal justice responses and protection of human trafficking victims before the United Nations General Assembly headquarters in New York City.The event was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

April 14-15, 2008, International Organization for Migration Human Trafficking "Train-the-Trainers" Program, Riga, Latvia

IOFA's Executive Director, Katherine Kaufka, presented on human trafficking to a symposium of Latvian university lecturers in law, criminal justice, and social work. The purpose of the training was to introduce particpants to human trafficking, provide an overview of international, Latvian, and U.S. anti-trafficking laws, and address ways to introduce human trafficking into respective curriculums at universities. The symposium was hosted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM ) and received support from the U.S. Embassy.

 

February 4-5, 2008 International Conference on Institutionalized Youth and Transition to Independence Programs, Moscow, Russia

IOFA and FAIRFund, Inc. were invited by Women and Children First to submit a report and provide a presentation on their project, Project Prepare! at an international conference sponsored by the European Commission. The topic of the conference was integration of graduates from orphanages and boarding schools and adaptation to public life. Participants at the conference included NGOs, government agencies and international organizations. IOFA's Co-Founder and President, Alison Boak, and FAIRFund's Executive Director, Andrea Powell presented their research findings and an overview of the Project Prepare! pilot program in Serbia.

September 27-28, 2007 National Human Trafficking Conference, Chicago, IL USA

The U.S. Department of Justice hosted its annual anti-human trafficking conference in Chicago. IOFA's Executive Director, Katherine Kaufka, was invited to present on a panel entitled "Addressing Victim Trauma and the role of NGOs." Over 200 individuals attended the conference, including local, state, and federal law enforcement agents, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, social service providers, community based organizations and national anti-trafficking task force members.
