IOFA's Executive Director, Katherine Kaufka, introduces a new program to address child trafficking. While thousands of foreign born and US citizen children are victims of human trafficking each year, only a few hundred child trafficking victims have been identified in the US. "Building Child Welfare Response to Child Trafficking" is an innovative program created by IOFA to combat child trafficking in Illinois with a key "first responder" - the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS). Together, we hope to identify greater numbers of child trafficking victims in Chicago and Illinois and develop best practices that can be applied to other state child welfare agencies. This press conference was hosted by the Illinois Department of Health & Human Services, and occured at the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago.
